Empty gasoline cans smaller than five gallons may be placed in your garbage can. Leave the lid off of empty gasoline containers for two to three days prior to putting them in the garbage.

Empty gasoline cans are not accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste facilities.

Empty metal gas containers may be taken to scrap metal companies that take empty underground storage tanks. Look in the Yellow Pages of the phone book under "Scrap Metal Recyclers."
